Statement Of Intent
How do you intend to use the four areas of the media theoretical framework to communicate meaning
and meet the requirements of your chosen brief? (approx. 400 words)
Product 1 - magazine
For my magazine I will have a target audience of mainly teenage to young adult females or males, which fits in with the brief of 16-25 year old's. will do this by using models who are around this age from 17-19 to target people who are in the demographic I want to aim at. For the representation in my magazine I am going to use both a male on one of my front covers and a female on the other, this also fits in with the brief of having two different social groups as I am targeting my magazine at both genders. This target audience was represented in my focus group where I carried out a questionnaire on people that are aged 16-22. A question that I asked them was "how old are the models on a magazine that you would most likely buy?' this found that 82% suggested that the models should be aged around 16 to 19, which is another reason for the ages of the models that I have.
I will use close up shots of the models faces to highlight their facial expressions and I also plan on emphasising this through the use of a dark background and high key lighting used on their faces to make them stand out. This will be done on both magazine covers to suggest a house style that carries through both editions. I want to have the limited use of the sell lines on the magazine because my target audience is sophisticated AB demographic and I feel this would fit to them better. This is backed up through my audience research where 23% of people said that sell lines were not important to them when buying a magazine.
In my contents page I will include images of the same model's in my front cover but this time using medium close ups to long shots of them in different outfits, this will emphasise that it is a fashion magazine because what I included on my cover's isn't too typical of a fashion magazine and also because there are limited sell lines it could be hard to tell. I will also include different headings such as fashion, beauty and wellness in my contents page which when researching my codes and conventions I found to be very typical.
Product 2 - website
In my website I am going to include a home page with different articles on it that people from my target audience would be interested in, for example, stories related to social media. I will also use models from my suggested age range to also fit in with my target audience. This feature was also very common when researching existing magazine websites in my codes and conventions. I will also have different pages such as a shop where you can order the magazines from and an about us page which will tell the audience more about my brand and it's ideology. The colour scheme of my website will be black and white which goes along with my contents pages from my magazine.
For my audio visual element to my video I am going to release a trailer for the magazine issues that are going to be released using photos from all of the models that are featured on my website and on my magazine covers and contents pages.
How do you intend to link your media products to demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of
the digitally convergent nature of your media production? (approx. 100 words)
My magazine cover and website are going to be convergent as I will use the same models from my cover and contents pages in my website. The colour schemes are also going to be similar (black and white). My brand name EVOLVE will be shown on my website very clearly, in the same font as it is on my front cover. I will create an Instagram page to have access to my magazine on another platform that will be linked to on my website. My website will have the same magazine front covers on them available to buy and they will also be in my video, where the same models from my magazine are featured as well.
